Rodeo Roundup: 7 Things to Do at Rodeo Houston
Howdy! Rodeo Houston is coming to a close but you still have 5 days left to make it out this season! That’s more than enough time to go out there and have a great time with friends or family. This year was my third year as a Rodeo Houston volunteer and I finally made it out there Sunday as a guest. I had only been out there for my shifts this season–I didn’t realize there was only a week left of rodeo! I was given suite tickets for Sunday so my hubby, friends and I made a day of it. There is so much to do, a little bit of everything for everyone!

Here are 7 things to do at Rodeo Houston:
Carnival / The Junction: If you’re an adrenaline junkie, an adult or have older kids, then you need to check out the carnival. You have plenty of options when it comes to rides. If rides are not your thing, there are many carnival games you can play. There is also The Junction, which is geared toward the more younger kids and it is also in the carnival area closer to NRG Center. There you will find camel rides, The Junction Carnival, petting zoo, pony rides and much more! You will need to purchase tickets to ride/play.
Shopping: Now who doesn’t love shopping?! Any excuse to shop right?! Vendor booths are located in both the NRG Center and NRG Arena. You can find anything from clothing, jewelry, boots, home decor, truck accessories, you name it! This year I purchased a turquoise necklace!
NRG Arena: You can find horse shows, showings and judging contests here as well as shopping. This Friday they will have a Llama Costume Show and an Alpaca Costume show on Saturday and Sunday, how cute!
Agventure: Located in the NRG Center, is this fun educational area that teaches kids (and adults) about agriculture and livestock and where you can see live animal exhibits. They also have a birthing center where you can see baby animals being welcomed into the world. So sweet to see these baby animals and their mothers nurturing them!
Food: Our course you can’t go to the rodeo and not eat the food! Turkey leg, sausage on a stick, brisket, baked potato, funnel cake and everything and anything fried! This weekend I tried brisket balls and they were delicious!
Catch a Show: Though the last concert, Garth Brooks, may be sold out there are plenty other artists you can go see. Plenty of genres to choose from! This weeks artists include: JBalvin, One Republic, Keith Urban, Chris Stapleton, Brad Plaisley and Garth Brooks. It’s always fun to watch the actual rodeo part at the beginning and end with an awesome concert performance. And the new Rodeo Houston concert stage is pretty cool!
Champion Wine Garden: Great place to hang out, have a drink, people watch and dance. They have live music and you can buy by the glass or the bottle. You can make a reservation for a table or just pop in and find a seat. This is a must stop for my friends and I every time!

Bonus: There’s also so much art to see from students in the NRG Center from drawings to photographs and much more. We came across these beautiful Horticulture pieces. Many were already gone but these are some of the ones that were still there on Sunday. This past Sunday was Go Tejano Day and we got to see a Mariachi perform in the center. Through out the grounds you will also find photo ops like the boot, the Howdy, Horseshoe and more.
Well, I hope you made it out to Rodeo Houston this season, if not you still have time! My team volunteer shifts are over but I will be ready to greet you at the gate next season if I haven’t done so already!
Check out the Rodeo Houston website for more details and ticket info.
